Iran unveils roadmap for transforming tourism in Muslim world

At a gathering of tourism ministers from the Developing Eight (D8) member states, Iran’s Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts, Reza Salehi-Amiri, outlined a strategic roadmap aimed at reshaping tourism relations within the Muslim world.

According to IRNA, Speaking at the conference in Cairo on Tuesday, Salehi-Amiri emphasized Iran’s leadership in smart governance, cultural diplomacy, and investment in civilizational development.  

He provided a comprehensive analysis of tourism across Islamic nations, stressing the need to redefine the sector as a vital component of civilizational diplomacy, a catalyst for sustainable development, and a source of social capital.  

Recognizing geopolitical shifts and advancements in transformative technologies such as artificial intelligence, Salehi-Amiri underscored the necessity of forging a new global order rooted in Islamic rationality, Eastern wisdom, and technological innovation.  

The minister detailed Iran’s evolving tourism strategy, noting that the country is moving away from traditional approaches toward a technology-driven, development-oriented, and economically sustainable model.  

With its rich tangible and intangible heritage, Iran seeks to position itself as a regional hub for health tourism, restore historical trade and travel routes, enhance smart infrastructure, and attract international investment.  

Salehi-Amiri proposed the establishment of a tourism investment center and emphasized that launching Iran’s first artificial intelligence unit dedicated to tourism is a crucial step in advancing the sector.
